Prunus marsupialis

Description

Small trees up to 13 m. Leaves elliptic to oblong, or somewhat ovatish, (6-)8-13(-16) by 3-6.5 cm, base rounded to acute, apex obtuse to acuminate, herbaceous, with 5-8 pairs of nerves, venation reticulate to more or less transverse, usually not conspicuous, both sides pubescent when young, glabrate, basal glands normally 2, hollowed and distinctly bulging above, rarely absent. Stipules linear, free, often persistent, 4-12(-17) by 0.5-3 mm, with marginal glands. Stamens 20-30(-40), filaments up to 5 mm, glabrous, anthers 0.3-0.4 mm long. Ovary densely hairy, style up to 4 mm long, base hairy. Fruits transversely ellipsoid, 6-13 by 7.5-15 mm, exocarp still sparsely hairy, via red ultimately becoming black, endocarp glabrous or with some hairs inside. Seed with glabrous testa.

Asia-Temperate: Taiwan (Taiwan present), Asia-Tropical: Philippines (Philippines present), Mindanao present, Palawan present
Philippines, many islands from north to south, but not (yet) seen from Mindanao and Palawan. , mentions the species for Taiwan, from where I have not seen any specimens.

Notes

Both epithets published in Pygeum are not available in Prunus.
