Description

Treelet or tree to 4 m. Leaves 9.5–31 by 4–12 cm, oblanceolate or obovate, glabrous or with a few hairs on midrib abaxially; base cordate or obtuse, rarely acute or cuneate; nerves (7–)9–14 on each side; petiole 2–5(–15) mm. Flowers solitary or usually in a few-flowered thyrse, 4.5–20 cm, axillary to supra-axillary, sometimes subtended by a minute bract, fragrant; axes glabrous to weakly pubescent; bracts 2–5(–12) mm, linear- lanceolate, rarely foliaceous; pseudopedicels (5–)8–19 mm. Petals 4, 4–8 cm long, ligulate, imbricate, recurved at anthesis, cream. Filaments united to about halfway; tube 3.6–6.7 cm, 1–3 mm diam., cylindrical, glabrous to rarely sparsely hairy without, pubescent within or sometimes glabrous in distal half; anthers 2–15(–23), 3–6.5 by 0.5–1 mm, glabrous. Ovary 4-locular, locules with 4–8 ovules in 2 vertical rows; style slender; stylehead capitate. Berry 1.2–1.8 cm long, globose to ellipsoid and beaked, often constricted between seeds; pericarp thin, fleshy. Seeds 2–5.
