Flowers actinomorphic, pedicelled, yellowish to orange.
Stamens free.
Ovary beaked;
Capsules exserted.
Seeds large, globose.

Monotypic, native of China and Japan, cultivated in Malesia and many other countries and sometimes naturalized.
