Description

Tree 7-8 m. Leaves articulated with very hard, thorny extension of the nodal bark, the latter remaining a permanent, ascending, sharp thorn; Flowers 1-several together, terminal, axillary or on branches or stem.

Asia-Tropical, Cairns present, Luzon present, N. Queensland present, S. Mexico present, W. Java present, northern Central America present
S. Mexico to northern Central America, cultivated elsewhere in the tropics; in Malesia rare: W. Java, Luzon, also seen from Cairns (N. Queensland).

Notes

Young sterile offshoots have no thorns and possess coarsely dentate leaflets.
