Gymnacranthera forbesii var. crassinervis usually is easily recognized and distinguished from var. forbesii and other species of Gymnacranthera by its stout twigs and leaves and usually strong orange-yellowish lateral nerves, which are very distinctly raised on the lower leaf surface. Gymnacranthera bancana also is a stout species, but leaves and young twigs are always rusty tomentose, whereas the present variety is almost glabrous.
