Pentaspadon motleyi

Description

Tree up to 50 m high and 70 cm Ø. Bark greyish white, light brown or brown, smooth to rough, shallowly fissured, and irregularly flaked. Flowers cream-coloured. Petals obovate-oblong, 1½-2½ by 1-1½ mm. Stamens ⅔ -1 mm; Panicles up to 31cm long, tomentose, glabrescent and sometimes seemingly glabrous; Ovary ½-¾ mm Ø. Seed ovoid-oblong, compressed, 2½-4 by 1-2 cm.

Asia-Tropical: Borneo present; Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia present); Maluku (Maluku present); New Guinea present; Sumatera (Sumatera present), Bougainville present, Choiseul present, Solomon Is present, Ysabel present
Solomon Is. (Bougainville, Choiseul, Ysabel) and Malesia: Sumatra, Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Moluccas, and New Guinea.

Ecology


CORNER observed that in Malaya "the trees shed their leaves and flower with the new foliage twice a year, about March to May and again about October to November. The crown is whitened by the fragrant blossom.".
