Description

Shrubs or trees, evergreen, monoecious; Leaves opposite, petiolate, ovate to elliptic, coriaceous, margin (sub)entire or crenate to serrate, glands absent, penninerved. Stipules entire, inconspicuous, caducous. Inflorescences axillary, with bracteate, solitary flowers or fascicles of flowers. Flowers unisexual, actinomorphic, pedicellate, sepals in 2 whorls, free, imbricate, ± equal, petals and disc absent. Fruit capsular, trilobate, smooth, dehiscing septicidally into 3 or 4 bivalved cocci; Seeds ovoid;

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: New Guinea present, Australasia
Two species in Australia; in Malesia: one extending into New Guinea.
