Description

Shrubs or small trees with the indumentum usually whitish. Stamens 2-4. Fruits smooth.

Distribution

Asia-Temperate: Korea present; Taiwan (Taiwan present), Asia-Tropical: Philippines (Philippines present), Japan present, NE Africa present, Sino-Himalayan region present, the Mediterranean present, western Malesia present
The section comprises c. 28 species, most of them associated with the Sino-Himalayan region, some extending to NE Africa, the Mediterranean, Korea, or Japan, some confined to Taiwan or the Philippines; a group of three species is centred in western Malesia.

Pollination

The pollinators of this section belong to Blastophaga subg. Blastophaga (Wiebes, The Indo-Australian Aganoninae (pollinators of figs), 1994).

Taxonomy

Section Ficus can be subdivided into two subsections: Ficus and Frutescentiae.
