Description
Tree up to 25 m high and 40 cm ø, occasionally with equal plank buttresses up to ⅔ m high.
Bark brown or dark brown, rather smooth.
Branchlets light brown and tomentose.
Leaves subcoriaceous, obovate to oblanceolate, elliptic to narrowly elliptic, 10½-38 by 3½-14 cm;
Flowers white, subsessile, 4-4½ mm long.
Petals ovate to lanceolate, 2½-3½ by 1½-2 mm, flat.
Stamens 1½-2mm;
Panicles terminal, up to 18 cm long, rusty pubescent;
Ovary conical, 1½-2 mm ø;

Notes
The fruit is very characteristic for the present species by the rusty-hairy, dense processes all over its surface. They seem, at first glance, to be insect-galls. However, the feature is a normal morphological character for this species as can be observed on either a longitudinal or transverse section of the ovary.
