Description

Glabrous liana. Flowers in short axillary racemes. Fruit flattened, 16-22 by l¼-l½ cm; Seeds 1-1½ by 3-3½ cm, incl. the membranous wing.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Philippines (Philippines present), E. Java present, Manila present, Mindanao present, Northern America, Southern America, Surabaya present
A common liana ranging from Mexico to Brazil of tropical dry forest, sporadically also in moist forest, introduced in the Philippines (Manila, Mindanao) and E. Java (Surabaya).

Taxonomy

The genus Pseudocalymna SAMP. & KUHLM. has been reduced to Pachyptera A.DC. by GENTRY (l.c.).

Notes

Another species may also be cultivated which is in flower not easy to distinguish from P. hymenaea, viz P. alliacea (LAMK) GENTRY; this latter species has a short oblong fruit with thick, corky wingless seeds.
