Description

Small pachycaul trees, initially monopodial, 5-10 m tall; Leaves: Inflorescences terminal or axillary spikes, 6-40 cm long, more or less erect in flower, becoming pendulous in fruit. Flowers with pedicels 2-7 mm long; Fruits narrowly ellipsoid, tapering to base, c. 5 by 2 cm, 4-angled. Seeds single.

Asia-Tropical: Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia present)
Malesia: Peninsular Malaysia.

Notes

This species is unique in the genus for producing adventitious roots in the base of the leaf rosettes to absorb the nutrients from the copious amount of litter that accumulates there.
