Description

Shrub to tree, 2-15 m high, dbh 10-24 cm; Branchlets shortly sericeous when young; Leaves 1-4-jugate; Inflorescences ramiflorous (to axillary), unbranched to branching basally and along the terete, sericeous, 1-13.3 cm long axis; Flowers 3.5-4 mm in diam., slightly fragrant; Sepals 5, ovate, margin pilose, outside and inside glabrous, white; Petals 5, ovate to obovate, 1.5-4.2 by 0.7-1.6 mm, white; Stamens 8; Fruits with 1-3 well developed lobes, 1.1-2.9 by 1.1-3.5 cm, completely dehiscent, smooth to rugose to ru-gosely ribbed, glabrous, red when fresh, blackish when dry; Seeds obovoid, c. 8.7 by 5.2 mm;

Notes

Guioa rigidiuscula is part of the G. ri-gidiuscula-complQx. Typical are the elliptic, smooth leaflets with a single sac and the barely stipitate fruits with highly convex upper sutures.
