Leaves greyish green to glaucous, 2-6 mm wide;

Annam present, Asia-Temperate: Korea present, Asia-Tropical: Assam (Assam present); Jawa (Jawa present); Maluku (Maluku absent); Sumatera (Sumatera present), Buru absent, Diëng plateau present, Jang plateau present, Japan present, NE. Thailand present, several localities in Priangan present
Assam, Annam, NE. Thailand; in Malesia: Java (West: several localities in Priangan; Central: Dieng plateau; East: Jang plateau). In the Leyden Herbarium there is a sheet labelled "Sumatra, Waitz", but Waitz probably did not visit this island. See . Notes

According to Backer l.c., 52. Carex phacota and C. pruinosa would be connected by intermediates, but I have not seen any transitional forms and I find the two clearly distinct.
Carex pruinosa f. tristigmatosa Back, belongs to 39. C. maculata Boott.
