Notes

I fail to trace dividing lines between S. subcapitatus s. str., S. clarkei (said to differ by the very slender habit, the more advanced development of the lamina of the leaves, the solitary spikelets, and the more distinctly barbellate perianth-bristles), and S. pakapakensis (differing from S. subcapitatus by the loose inflorescence and the more distinctly barbellate bristles).
More distinct geographical races are: subsp. pulogensis (MERR.) KERN and subsp. celebicus KERN.
