Cordia bantamensis

Description

Tree or climber, 3-10 m high. Leaves: petiole 1.2-6 cm long; blade elliptical to ovate, 7-22 by 4-12 cm, margin entire to wavy, base rounded-decurrent to rounded or subcordate, apex obtuse to acuminate, nerves 4 or 5 on each side, darker than surroundings when dry on lower surface, glabrous on the upper, tomentose on the lower surface. Inflorescence paniculoid, with 10-12 flowers subcapitate at end of (up to 5) branches, axillary, on a 2-3 cm long peduncle; pedicels 1-3 mm long. Stamens with short filaments, included in the corolla. Fruit ovoid, rostrate, 15-18 by c. 10 mm.

Asia-Tropical: Jawa (Jawa present); Lesser Sunda Is. (Bali present); Sumatera (Sumatera present), Flores present, Timor present
Malesia: Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands (Bali, Flores, Timor).

Notes

On Timor, leaves are often comparatively narrow for their length and show fine white, calcareous dots under a lens similar to C. dichotoma.
