Description

Glabrous. Leaves opposite; lamina ovate to slightly obovate, 5-8 by 3-5 cm, cuneate to truncate at the base to a petiole 4-13 mm long, rounded at the apex, dull on both sides; venation pinnate with the midrib distinct below and the other venation indistinct. Inflorescences at the nodes, a spike of 1-3 decussate pairs of flowers, sessile or nearly so, subtended at the base by 1-3 pairs of bracts up to 5 mm long; flower-bearing axis 5-10 mm long, with decussate hollows 3-4 mm long; central bracts c. 10 by 4 mm, sometimes keeled, acute; lateral bracts c. 7 by 2.5 mm wide, obtuse or acute.
