    According to Constantinidis & Apostolopoulos (2023), Lolium scholzii Greuter fits well L. persicum Boiss. & Hohen. on account of its spikelet, floret and lemma characters and its slender, annual habit. When described from the western foothills of Mt Taigetos, L. scholzii was compared with L. rigidum Gaudin and this is apparently the reason why it is sometimes placed, incorrectly, under the synonymy of L. rigidum.
