    According to Piirainen & al. (2017: 122), Arthrocnemum Moq. is originally typified with Salicornia fruticosa L. which means that Arthrocnemum is congeneric with Salicornia (s.l., incl. Sarcocornia), and the name is not applicable as it is traditionally used in Greek floristic literature. Old World members of this relationship are therefore allocated to a separate genus, Arthrocaulon Piirainen & G. Kadereit.
