Description

Tree up to 35 m tall, evergreen. Leaves spirally arranged; stipules fully amplexicaul, 1-4.5 cm long, brown appressedly puberulous, caducous. stamen 3-3.5 mm long, anther c. 0.3 mm long; fruits ellipsoid, 1-1.5 cm long.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: Malaya (Peninsular Malaysia present); Sumatera (Sumatera present); Thailand (Thailand present), north-eastern present
Thailand; in Malesia: Sumatra, Malay Peninsula, Borneo (north-eastern).

Taxonomy

The material from Borneo, recognised by Jarrett (1959) as a distinct subspecies, differs slightly from that from Thailand, Sumatra, and the Malay Peninsula, in the usually more slender petioles and persistent interfloral bracts of the pistillate inflorescence.

Uses

The pulp around seeds is eaten by man.
