Description

Stiff hairs on the leafy twig and the petiole relatively short - this part of the indumentum hirtellous rather than hirsute -, those on the lamina beneath, mainly on the midrib, appressed. stipules usually ± extensively hairy.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: New Guinea present
Malesia: New Guinea.

Morphology

1The majority of the specimens have oblong to subobovate leaves, mostly 10-20 cm long. Most of them were collected at altitudes up to 1400 m. A few specimens have elliptic leaves, in shape similar to most of the specimens of var. pleioclada, and were collected at altitudes between 1300 and 1500 m. 2 Another set of collections is distinct in the size of the lamina, less than 10 cm long, and somewhat in the shape, oblong to lanceolate. These collections have been made at altitudes between (1300-)1700-2150 m.
