The species shows affinities to a group with axillary figs, including F. multistipularis and F. boanensis. It differs from the former in the subglabrous leafy twigs and stipules, the cuneate to rounded base of the lamina, and the shorter petioles and stipules. It differs from the latter in the persistent epidermis of the longer petiole and the cuneate to rounded base and dentate margin of the lamina.
