Taxonomy

This species is closely related to F. montana (which also occurs in N Borneo). It differs from the widespread F. montana in the thicker leafy twigs, the brownish indumentum on the various plant parts, the more finely and regularly dentate margin of the lamina, the (sub)sessile figs with relatively large peduncular (or basal) bracts (2-3 mm long), and in particular the conspicuously hairy inner surface of the fig receptacle and the hairy tepals.
