Description
Tree up to 15 m tall.
internal hairs sparse to abundant, white to brownish.
Leaves spirally arranged to subopposite or on ultimate twigs distichous;
stipules 1-3 cm long, white to brown hirtellous to subsericeous, caducous.
Distribution
Asia-Tropical: New Guinea present, New Britain present
Malesia: New Guinea (incl. New Britain).
Notes
1The species is rather variable. It might include F. papuana (see p. 440). The differentiating characters between F. calopilina and F. pachyrrhachis are also rather weak. The species is not only morphologically quite variable, but also occupies a wide altitudinal range.
2The syconia are edible.
