Taxonomy

This species was included in F. ribes, but in its indumentum it is distinct enough to regard it as a separate species, possibly more closely related to F. vrieseana than to F. ribes. It is distinct from the latter in the ± dense, mostly patent brown(ish) hairs on the leafy twigs petioles and leaves, intermixed with shorter white hairs, and the hirtellous to puberulous fig receptacle. It is distinct from F. vrieseana in the cystoliths which also occur on the upper surface of the lamina.
