Description

Tree, c. 12 m tall. internal hairs bristles rather abundant, brownish. Leaves spirally arranged or subopposite; stipules 3.5-4 cm long, brownish to whitish strig(ill)ose to subsericeous, subpersistent.

Distribution

Asia-Tropical: New Guinea present, Milne Bay present, Morobe Province present
Malesia: New Guinea (Milne Bay and Morobe Provinces).

Taxonomy

This species is probably closely related to F. pachyrrhachis, from which it differs in the convex to flat apex and the stipitate base of the fig receptacle, the short basal bracts, and possibly also in the position of the figs on the tree, according to label data, on bunches of short branchlets rather than on up to 40 cm long elongate leafless branchlets.
