Taxonomy

22. It can be distinguished from F. carpenteriana by the exfoliating periderm of the leaf twigs and epidermis of the petiole as well as by the normally caducous stipules. 1This species can be distinguished from the least hairy form of F. congesta by the absence of furcations of the lateral veins, the absence of waxy glandular spots on the lamina beneath, and the tendency to form minute spurs in the leaf axils. It is distinct from the more hairy form of F. congesta in the smooth lamina with a flat margin. 3In Taiwan, the axillary spurs often become up to 2 cm long.
