Description

Herbs or small shrubs, mostly branched. Leaves sessile or petiolate, 3-5-veined or 3-pliveined. Inflorescences axillary and/or terminal, dichasial panicles. Flowers 5-merous; calyx deeply 5-lobed, lobes imbricate; corolla tubular, regularly 5-lobed; stamens 5, inserted halfway corolla tube, filaments short, anthers sagittate-ovate, connective sometimes bidentate; pollen in monads; stigma 2-lobed. Fruit a capsule, oblong-ellipsoid, with persistent calyx; seeds areolate.
