Description

Small tree, up to 8 m, 5 cm dbh. Leaf-blade ovate-oblong to ovate-lanceolate, rarely elliptic, c. 20-40 by (6—)8—12(—15) cm, base cordate, the margins at base flat or only little upturned, apex gradually narrowed to shortly acuminate; Inflorescences sometimes also on older shoots from adventitious buds, up to 22 cm long; Sepals: Petals dark red when dry, the longest one 15-18.5 mm; Stamens: Ovary stipitate for 1-1.5 mm, half-patently hairy; Fruit globular, c. 1.7 cm diam., dull brown, rather distinctly half-patently hairy;
