Malesia: Borneo (Sarawak, Sabah, E & SE Kalimantan).

Taxonomy

Knema membranifolia resembles typical K. curtisii by the glabrescent yellowish twigs; that species, however, has terete twigs, non-flaking bark, and a different androecium. The closest alliance of K. membranifolia is possibly with K. korthalsii, which differs in non-flaking bark of twigs, generally larger (longer) leaves with more veins, flowers with persistent indumentum, 12-20 smaller anthers, and smaller fruits.
