Description

Usually rather large plants; internodes terete or slightly keeled above. to 9 cm long; intercalary cataphylls absent (rarely 1 pair at about 1.5 cm); basal cataphylls 1 or 2(3) pairs, lowest at about 0.6 cm, highest to 2 cm above base. Petiole 0.5 cm long; blade elliptical or dimidiate to falcate, to 15 x 4 cm, apex rounded, base cuneately tapering into indistinct petiole; venation pinnate, but basal lateral veins often very strong. Monoecious. Inflorescence often long and sinuous, 8 cm long or longer with 10 or more fertile internodes; sterile cataphylls 0-2 pairs, very low; fertile internodes with to 7-22 flowers per bract in mostly 3-seriate pattern, female flowers sometimes formed only on 1 side of internode or in 1 series. Fruit translucent white, spherical, 0.4 x 0.3 cm, perianth segments closed.
