Description

Stout plants, dichotomous and/or percurrent?; each innovation with 1 pair of foliage leaves and 2 or 3 pairs of cataphylls, highest ones reaching halfway to expanded leaves above; stems terete. Petiole 0.2-0.5 cm long; blade leathery, obovate, to 8 x 3.5 cm, apex rounded, base cuneately grading into massive, indistinct petiole; venation obscure. Dioecious. Female inflorescence 4 cm long; sterile internodes 1-3, fertile internodes 4; flowers 5-9 per fertile bract, 3-seriate.

Notes

In the protologue of this species, branching is said to be dichotomous, but the specimens I have seen appear to be normally percurrent.
