Description
Profusely branched, glabrous, small-leaved plant; basal cataphylls 1 pair, to 0.5 cm above axil, in median position. Leaf blade elliptical to somewhat ovate, to 2 x 1 cm. Monoecious. Inflorescence ca. 0.3 cm long; peduncle 0.1 cm, simple; fertile internode usually 1, normally with 5 flowers per fertile bract, 3-seriate, lowest several female. Fruit white, ovoid to nearly spherical, 0.5 x 0.6 cm, tuberculate when young, perianth segments small, erect.
Distribution
Guyana present, Southern America: Bolivia (Bolivia present), montane (mostly western) S America present
Throughout montane (mostly western) S America, to Bolivia, sometimes descending to middle elevations; ca. 70 collections studied, of which at least 3 from Guyana (GU: 3).
