Markgraf compares his new species to Parsonsia wollastonii which is now a synonym of P. sanguinea. It may be that this species is also a synonym of P. sanguinea and may be synonymous with var. sepikensis but without the type material or any other material identified by Markgraf its determination cannot be guaranteed.
