Description

Tree up to 35m tall. Branchlets 3-7 mm thick, hirtellous. Stipules 4-9.5 cm long, puberulous, caducous; petiole 2.5-6.5(-8.5) cm long; blade coriaceous to subcoriaceous, elliptic to narrowly elliptic, 9-32 x 3-15 cm, apex acuminate to subacute, base rounded to obtuse or to subcordate, margin entire, scabrous, hispidulous to puberulous above, scabridulous, hispidulous to hirtellous beneath; secondary veins 15-25 pairs. Figs solitary in the leaf axils, (sub)globose, 1.5-2.5 cm in diam., more or less densely, minutely puberulous, at maturity greenish; peduncle 0.7-1.5 cm long; basal bracts 3, 2.5 mm long; ostiole ca. 2-3 mm in diam., plane sometimes somewhat mamillate.

Notes

The typical subspecies extends from the Amazon Basin to Central America.
