Description
Slender treelet, 2.5-10 m tall, unbranched or with few ascending, sympodial branches on distal portion; bark dark brown, lenticellate. Distal portion of stem nearly terete or sulcate, glabrous or puberulent, smooth. Leaves paripinnate, spirally arranged on distal portion of stem(s); petioles 9-38 cm long, pulvinate at base; rachis 10-58 cm long, terete, or slightly striate on distal area, glabrous, dark reddish brown, glossy; petiolules 3-9 mm long, with a conical, reddish brown, pulvinate base; leaflets 16-22, opposite or alternate, nearly coriaceous, glabrous and glossy on both surfaces, oblong, oblong-elliptic, or elliptic, 8-18(44) × 2.1-6(13.5) cm, midvein yellowish, prominent on abaxial surface, the apex acuminate, the base inequilateral, obtuse-acute, abruptly narrowing into the petiolule. Thyrses panicle-shaped, 10-25 cm long, distal or axillary on distal portion of branches; axes reddish tinged, obtusely angled, sulcate, glabrous to puberulent; bracts persistent, subulate, 3-5 mm long, appressed-pubescent; dichasia compound; peduncles 3-5 mm long, puberulent; pedicels 1-1.5 mm long, articulate at the upper third, puberulent, reddish. Calyx reddish tinged, 2-3 mm long, puberulent, the sepals 1.5-2 mm long, ovate, concave, ciliate on margins; petals reflexed at anthesis, oblong-elliptic, 6-7.5 mm long, white, glabrous on abaxial surface, papillate on adaxial surface, the base truncate-cuneate, the margins ciliate; appendages deltate-lanceolate, as long as the petals, adaxially sericeous-tomentose, abaxially glabrous and papillate, adnate at the base of petal; disc annular, 5-lobed, glabrous or hispidulose; stamens (5)6-8, the filaments glabrous, equal or slightly unequal, 2.5-4.5 mm long, the anthers oblong, 1.3-1.5 mm long, apiculate at apex; ovary conical-trilobed, glabrous, the style elongated, appressed-pubescent, the stigma capitate, papillate. Fruit orange-yellow at maturity, ellipsoid-ovoid, apiculate, 2-2.5 cm long, glabrous, the pericarp coriaceous to woody, granulose, ca. 1 mm thick. Seeds 1-3 per fruit, nearly ellipsoid, with yellowish, fleshy testa.
