Description

Tree 10-25 m. Leaves (thinly) coriaceous, (elliptic-)oblong, 15-20 by 5-8 cm, base (broadly) rounded, apex ± blunt or acute-acuminate; Inflorescences incompletely known, finely pubescent. Male and female flowers not seen (see note). Fruits solitary, ± ellipsoid, 4-5 by 3.5-4 cm, hairs dense, mealy, rust-coloured, 0.1 mm;

Distribution

Asia-Tropical, Papua Barat present, W Papua New Guinea present, W Sepik present, mountains on the north side of the Main Range present
Malesia: Papua Barat (mountains on the north side of the Main Range) and adjoining W Papua New Guinea (W Sepik).

Taxonomy

Subsp. versteeghii may merit the status of a separate species; its inclusion in M. duplopunctata is provisional, until more and especially (male) flowering material becomes available.
