Distribution

Widespread, as the subspecies.

Morphology

Highly variable in leaf size, some flower characters, and fruits. The androphore is usually hairy towards the base, but in some (not all) specimens from the Bismarck Archipelago (almost) glabrous. Fruits vary from 2.5 to 5 cm in length, with 0.1-0.5 mm long hairs; Ridsdale NGF 33918 is one of the extremes, with fruits 5 by 3.5 cm, rough hairs, 0.5 mm long, and pericarp 3-5 mm thick.
