Description

Tree up to 30 m. Leaves subcoriaceous, lateral nerves 20-28 pairs, faint on both surfaces. Fruits subglobose, (2.5-)3 cm diameter, hairs (0.2-)0.5 mm long, persistent;

Distribution

Asia-Tropical, Papua New Guinea present, Rossel I present, S Fergusson I present
Malesia: Papua New Guinea (S Fergusson I., type, and Rossel I., LAE 74561, with immature fr.).

Taxonomy

The two specimens known of subsp. lignosa considerably deviate from those of the type subspecies. When more material becomes available it may be found that two separate species are concerned here.
